The Sturmgewehr 44 (StG 44) is an iconic German rifle developed and produced during World War II. The StG 44 is often considered to be the first modern assault rifle. Chambered in 7.92x33mm Kurz and capable of unloading over 500 rounds per minute, the StG 44 provided the German infantryman with a powerful advantage on the battlefield. While the StG 44 itself came into mass production a little too late to have a significant effect on the war, it heavily influenced the design of later firearms.
